Almost Time To Upgrade: Mac Pro w/ 30″
August 23rd, 2007 | Apple, PersonalI truly love spending time on my computer and I’m getting to the point where my current MacBook Pro w/ 20″ monitor are just not cutting it. I’ve pretty much filled up my 120GB hard drive with applications and music, which amounts to more than half probably. I absolutely love the mobility of my laptop but I think its time to get something a little more powerful. The two 2.66Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro is calling my name!

I’m also feeling ready to transition to one monitor thus my decision to go with the 30″, I clearly need the largest. I could possibly use my existing 20″ and get another 20″ but I think the move to one monitor will be a nice adjustment. I’m really looking forward to having a MacPro that is flexible enough so that I can upgrade as time passes. I plan on starting with 2GB of memory with a 400GB hard drive. I’ll probably add another 1GB of memory pretty quickly.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the MacPro for those of you that have it as well as comments on the 30″ monitor. I clearly want to go with the Apple display but the Dell 30″ seems to be “as nice”, although I wouldn’t match…which, if you know me, could possibly drive me crazy.

i think you should upgrade to a Dell 30″ and save yourself like a grand… which of course you can use to buy like a 500 gig hard drive for bay 2 of 4 in your MacPro while boosting your memory another gig or 2, just an idea…. good article on the iphone, as cool as it is to play with getting anything done for work is almost impossible. -Cheers

Hey Steve,
Yeah it is definitely a nice machine and I’m saving up. I would essentially sell my existing setup immediately after I got the new one. I am very excited! I currently live in Norwalk, CT in the USA. Keep saving! What is your current setup?
Best,
Greg
