Weekly Maintenance Tips
August 26th, 2007 | Apple, WorkflowAs my site is in its infancy many of my readers are currently some of my closest friends. I often remind my friends of tips for updating their machines and running simple tasks to keep their machines working as smoothly as possible. With that said I’m going to note two tasks I aim to do either on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to keep my machine running smoothly.
Tiger Cache Cleaner is a utility designed to provide easy access to numerous OS X maintenance and utility options. When used in combination with OS X’s disk repair tools, it can be very effective in curing many system problems. Tiger Cache Cleaner helps simplify system maintenance chores with an easy point and click interface to many OS X functions.

I mainly use Tiger Cache Cleaner to improve my startup performance by eliminating duplicate or orphaned login items. I often do a light or medium clean of my cache as it can cure many types of strange system behaviors. If you are experiencing random application crashes, difficulty with system preference settings, or internet settings cache cleaning may help you. If you still have problems after that then try using the deep cleaning option. if you are not currently using Tiger Cache Cleaner, try it out.
Mac’s Disk Utility is a multipurpose program for working with hard disks, disk images, CDs, DVDs and user permissions. User permissions associated with files, folders, or applications can become damaged and prevent a file or application from opening. Permissions problems can also cause your computer to run slowly. I usually repair my permissions after I install new software or upgrade any software.

If you’re unfamiliar with Disk Utility you can find it in the Utilities folder, which is within your Applications folder.
What applications do you use to keep your machine running smoothly?
