iTunes 7.4 Now Available For Download With Ringtones Support
September 6th, 2007 | Apple, MobileApple has just posted iTunes 7.4. Coming out of the Apple Event yesterday the new release includes the following changes:
Sync your music and more with the new iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, and iPod touch, plus create custom ringtones exclusively for iPhone with many of your favorite songs purchased from the iTunes Store. Now you can play purchased videos with closed captioning (when available), easily rate your favorite albums from one to five stars, and watch videos at a larger size inside the iTunes window.
The eye catching feature here is the custom ringtones, unfortunately their exclusively for the iPhone at the moment. Hopefully that feature will expand its reach soon to accommodate other carriers as it would be an additional revenue generating stream. The Ringtone support feature announced yesterday will be available with select iTunes Store tracks for an additional $.99 and is expected to be available next week.
For those interested there are alternatives to get ringtones on your iPhone. Check out iToner (Mac), iPhoneRingToneMaker (PC) or iFuntastic. Just beware that there have been reports of users having their custom ringtones deleted upon sync with iTunes 7.4 if they’ve been added via 3rd party tools such as the few above. I’m looking forward to demoing this feature as soon as its available. Stay tuned next week for my reviews! For those with iPhone, let me know your thoughts!
