ProBlogger To The Rescue!

September 14th, 2007 | Online, Personal, Workflow

As a newbie blogger, I asked myself “how am I to get more visitors/readers to my site?” I’m sure many others have asked themselves this question as well. After reading tons of articles I decided to ask the Darren Rowse, the author of ProBlogger. I am an avid reader of his site so dropped a question into his question box hoping that some of his reader base could provide some insight that would help me. I never imagined what was to come…

Darren wrote a post about my question and provided some GREAT insight not only for my site but for new bloggers everywhere! I can’t thank him enough for the advice as I am a big fan, let alone the new visitors that he drove to my site due to that article. I have been blogging since about August and haven’t had too many visitors since then, probably around 10-25 visits a day. As I started receiving numerous comments to my blog last night I became curious as to how many visitors Darren’s post could be driving. I looked at my google analytics last night before going to bed and much to my suprise…

I received close to 300 visits due to his article just last night! I am extremely glad my question resonated well with him and he was inclined to write about this topic on his blog, which does seem to come up a lot. I sincerely hope his article was a benefit to all of his readers not just the new bloggers, although it probably helped them most. I also would like to thank all of those that visited my site and provided feedback on both my current content as well as insights for improvement. I’ve already began looking at all of the sites of those that provided their own thoughts and I look forward to diving deeper into their sites and aim to make the same types of contributions. Per one of Darren’s directions regarding “guest posting”, I would love the opportunity to guest author some posts on any sites where there seems to be a fit. So some of you may here from me shortly and feel free to reach out to me as well because I’m a big fan of good collaboration! If you’re interested in some collaboration just let me know! Thanks again to Darren at ProBlogger and I think its clear how his thoughts generate user action!

Congratulations, Greg! I’m sure your question was one that many bloggers have pondered, and that’s why Darren decided to answer it when he has so many other questions to choose from.

Bursts of traffic such as what you just experienced will help get you on other people’s radars, but don’t be disappointed if your traffic level drops off after all of Darren’s readers have finished that post!

In the long run, steadily increasing visitors combined with content that keeps your visitors coming back will get you to where you want to be.

    Hey Greg,

Darren was amazing in his insight (as always).

    Here’s my 5 cents:
I generally subscribe via email to a blog’s feed directly from my phone’s browser. However, on your blog I do not have the option. It would be better if you have a link to subscribe via email.

    Cheers!

Great question…and great idea to ask Darren Rowse directly!! Must have been a nice surprise to get some traffic as a side-effect of that. Way to go!

I am one of blog Newbies who just saw the article on ProBlogger site. Congratulations!

At the same time, I think it is a great time for you to really gear up the effort to build up your blog. The challenge will be how to turn these 300 readers as loyal readers to come back to your site. You may want to pick up some of Darren’s advice and launch a project to implement them, then, all the readers will probably come back again to see how you are doing and how much impact that made on your traffic!

    Just an idea….

Congrats on being mentioned on Problogger! I experienced something similar to your spike in posts after one of my personal blogs was mentioned on a PR8. It did drop way down to normal after a few days, but it motivated me to look at ways to steadily build to that level again. Hasn’t happened to me yet, but great content should get you there eventually!
