Wireless Wednesday: Verizon’s New Holiday Lineup Reveals iPhone Competitor

October 3rd, 2007 | Mobile

iPhone, iPhone, iPhone, iPhone. Apple’s new iPhone has been the point of many conversations regarding the mobile world recently and rightfully so. Apple definitely has paved the way for the next phase of mobile devices. Well, now Verizon is not too far behind and surprising enough, one of their new models from the recently announced holiday lineup looks a lot like a relative to the iPhone. Will Verizon’s new LG Voyager be better than the iPhone?

Of the four new handsets Verizon announced today the Voyager is the most intriguing as it will stand as direct competition to the Apple iPhone. The Voyager’s product description is as follows:

The Voyager is a messaging device derived from the enV, but features a large touch screen and new user interface on the front. The touch screen provides haptic feedback and has revised menus to access the phone’s many features. Like the enV, it opens sideways to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, large interior screen, and stereo speakers. It has EV-DO data, a full HTML browser with minimap, stereo Bluetooth, a 2 Megapixel camera, and a microSD slot that supports cards up to 8GB. It is also compatible with Verizon’s V CAST Mobile TV service.

Well, the touch screen looks a lot like the iPhone to me except for the full QWERTY keyboard that reveals itself from the side. With the iPhone’s keypad being one of the biggest complaints I think the Voyager may be a serious competitor. As an iPhone user myself, typing is pretty annoying, especially if you’re putting together a long email. The combination of touch screen, full REAL QWERTY keypad and the much more reliable service of Verizon, the voyager may shine this holiday season. Not being a fan of the touch screen at this present moment in time and the fact that I just got a Blackberry 8830 World Edition phone (which I love), I don’t see myself upgrading to the Voyager anytime soon. I will however be looking for detailed customer reviews and comparisons to the iPhone.

Verizon customers, will you upgrade to the Voyager? iPhone adopters, are you jealous a similar phone with more stable service is now available? Which phone will own the holidays this year?

Any word on the email capabilities? I can’t wait for the pearl. That is going to be the phone people want the most.

    Mas,
They’ve been brief regarding email capabilities, however, it appears as though the Voyager will be clunky in that regard. If you’re an avid emailer from your phone you would probably like the Pearl better as you mentioned because it utilizes the blackberry OS. I love my 8830 with emails. Real clean and fast!
