Apple Airport Extreme Compatibility Issues With Xbox360

Airport360

As I’ve moved into my new apartment I had to make a decision on where to place my computer now that I’ve upgraded to a desktop MacPro. My computer is now located in a soon to be “office area” not conveniently located near my Xbox 360, thus the cable modem is too far to hard line the gaming console in a neat manner. Since I don’t want wires running all over the new place I decided to get the wireless adapter for Xbox and just have it wirelessly connect to the Airport Extreme. For those of you that have not heard there are some seriously compatibility issues connecting the two.

360 1-1

I was completely aware of the issues but for some reason the impulse buyer in me just got the thing and figured I would deal with it when I set it up. Well, It’s all setup now and I’m facing the issues that many others have ranted about. Numerous articles discuss this topic. It’s been discussed on TUAW, Mac Talk Forums and of course Apple Discussions. There have been a few solves as you’ll read ranging from using the old Airport Express as a wireless extender to using your Xbox 360 with no wireless security settings in place. Clearly your best bet is hard wiring pending your cable modem is close to your console. Well, after some debate and the release of Halo 3 I had to make decisions. Even though I am really not a fan of un-securing my network I’ve decided to go the route of removing the security, BUT only while I’m playing Xbox 360 online. As soon as I’m done you know I’ll definitely be putting the protection back on.

The rumors are saying that their could be an update to this in November with the new 360 updates but we shall see. Have you experienced this issue? If so, what has been your workaround?
