Seeing as how I am soon to be changing jobs I had to start handing off some work. This in turn has left me with some time on my hands during the day. With that said, I’ll get to my point. I probably hit the “stumble” button about 800 times yesterday and I came across Jango. Jango is described as social internet radio, currently in beta and only available via invite. At my current job I have to operate on a PC (a very old dell) and I never really put any of my music on it. I usually used my iPod to listen to music but after coming across Jango, I may change the way I listen to music while working.

HomepagejangoJango gives you the opportunity to create your own stations picking artists you enjoy listening to. If you like Kanye West, Jango directs you to other artists such as Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Common to name a few. You can add all of these artists to your station and Jango will randomly select the next song in queue from the selected artists.

Picture 3-5Jango displays artist artwork as well as lets you rate songs in its user friendly interface. The better the ranking the more likely Jango will play that song or another song by that artist in your future listening.

By signing up for an account, which is FREEJango will remember your stations no matter where you log in. If you’re into the myspace thing for music this might be a good alternative for you. Find others that listen to the same artists you love to listen to everyday as well as discover new ones.

Personally, I don’t use myspace and I do a lot of searching for new bands. With over 11,000 songs in my iTunes library I have quite the collection. A service like Jango benefits me in that I have music on every computer and it suggests artists to check out that are similar to what I’m already listening to. That’s the seller for me. Yes, iTunes does that I then have to purchase those bands or find torrents. With Jango I can hear full songs to feel out a new group.

Jango is currently in beta and only available via invite. Granted it didn’t take long for me to get my invite I have three invites to give away. Jango’s archive of music could use a little bit of updating but I’m sure that will comein time. If you’re interested in trying out Jango let me know! I’ll invite the first three people that contact me.

    Hey G,
Jango sounds an awful lot like Pandora (http://www.pandora.com) Have you used that before? I’m curious to see the comparison.
