Mac OS X Leopard: Mail
October 18th, 2007 | Apple, How-To, WorkflowAs many of you know and are anticipating, Apple’s new Leopard OS will be released October 26th. Leopard will include about 300 new features which many are excited for. Some of you may also know that I’ve been using a developers edition of the the new Leopard OS for the last month or so. I’ve been waiting to do some posts on it for number of reasons. First, I wanted to see how my version would vary from the officially announced releasing version. I didn’t want to post about features that could possibly not be available when officially released. Now with the release date confirmed and list of new features has been published on Apple’s site, I will be writing some posts discussing many of the new features that I have been taking advantage of in the last month. The first post in this edition will be on the new Mail application.
TO DO’s:
The first feature of Mail that I would like to point out is that of the To-Do’s. I’ve been looking for a way to organize my tasks a little better and although I’m still looking for the right application to do so, the new To-Do’s in Mail 3.0 are working great. Now in Mail, you can create To-Do items that can be extracted directly from emails. All you need to do is highlight the text in the desired email and then either click the “To-Do” button or right click and choose “Add To Do”. This will add an item under the “other category” within your side panel of your new Mail application. It will look like this:
When clicking on the “To Do” line item on your side panel the main window of the Mail application lists all of your To Do’s including Date Due, Date Completed, Priority, calendar type and any notes associated with that to do. The main window will look like this:
NOTES:
The second feature I would like to highlight are the Notes. Now, you can add notes that include not only text but graphics and attachments as well. Notes can be organized into groups or even added to Smart Mailboxes that will automatically group your notes. Notes act as though they are an email mailbox thus you can access them from any Mac or PC or even your iPhone.
When clicking on your notes in the side panel the main window within Mail will look something like this pending your actual notes:
Of all the new features within Mac Mail these two have been my favorite and most utilized thus far. If you would like to see what other new features Mail will include just click here.
What features of Mail are you looking forward to?
