Nikon Sponsors RCRD LBL
November 16th, 2007 | Online, PhotographyAs some of you may heard, Peter Rojas, the co-founder of Engadget has introduced his latest venture RCRD LBL. Paul Stamatiou at paulstamatiou.com wrote a great “quick hit” post covering the new venture that will offer free online music from existing and emerging bands/groups. RCRD LBL will utilize a sponsorship model in order to provide the free music and I’m happy to say that Nikon is the first sponsor involved.
Nikon’s sponsorship is a very interesting one in my eyes. As the site will be offering a variety of music that includes many different genres and styles of music, many of which will be exclusive. You may be asking yourself where Nikon, a camera brand comes in.

Well, if you visit the RCRD LBL site you’ll notice a photo widget on the ride side of the page. Their sponsorship will utilize this widget to showcase the bands and solo artists right there visually. Side note, the widget is available to imbed on your site as well.
I love that Nikon and Rojas are bridging the gap between photography and music. For Nikon, this is a great business move. Nikon’s brand has just expanded its reach to many viewers which are potentially a new and untapped audience.
Music and photography are both a form of art and expression thus this partnership does not come as a surprise to me. Musicians are always trying to find great creative ways to visually represent their music not only with their album art but with their website all the way to merchandise sold at live events.
Sponsorships such as this can often go unnoticed but they are an extremely effective method of brand awareness and penetration…when done correctly of course. In my eyes this partnership is a solid one and valuable for both sides of the table.
What are your thoughts on this new partnership? Are there any other sponsorship’s that you’ve been satisfied with. Conversely, are there any that just don’t make sense to you and seem forced?
