How To: Create A FavIcon For A Wordpress Site

For those that do not know, a Favicon (short for favorites icon) is a small icon that is used by web browsers such as Firefox or Safari to identify a bookmarked website. These icons are also referred to as a page icon or a URL icon. You’ll notice many websites you visit on a regular basis have these icons. Would you like to create a favicon for your own wordpress site? Well, here is a simple way to do it!
First, you need to select a photo you want to use as your favicon. My favicon is the TV extracted from my logo. I used Favikon (a favicon generator). This site allows you to select an image and the site will convert it into the necessary file.
After you have created this icon which should be titled “favicon.ico” you need to upload it into your public_html folder on your wordpress server using your FTP application. I use Cyberduck to connect to my FTP server which is hosted by MediaTemple.
Once you’ve added this file to your “html” folder, a little bit of code is all you need to get this going! Just add the following code to your header.php folder.

After adding this code to the header.php file and save it, you should see your favicon the next time you refresh your wordpress site!
