Tech Divorce
February 10th, 2008 | Personal, Technology, WorkflowSo I unfortunately had to deal with Dell’s Customer Service recently as my 30″ monitor had some pixels die out. As I waited for the new monitor to arrive I began to think about unpacking and repacking it. At this point, I realized how truly big the screen is. 30 inches is a lot of screen real estate! So why do I bring this up? Well, I’m seriously contemplating selling my 30″ monitor to downgrade to maybe a 24″ and possibly even back to a 20″ monitor. What does this mean at the end of the day? I could be selling a brand new Dell 30″ monitor! The 30 has been near and dear t my heart but we may need to file for a divorce.

The 30″ has treated me well and I know if I do in fact sell it, it will bring as much joy to its new owner. It just wont have its original box because I need to send back the defected monitor. So as I begin to determine if I should divorce my monitor, I began thinking about what other technology I have that I may either not use enough to warrant keeping it or don’t necessarily need. The key word being need.

I really have been using my MacBook Pro way more than the MacPro as I can sit on the couch and relax thus that could be another possible divorce. The MacPro is a beast and is great for working in Photoshop as it has 4GB of RAM. Pretty fast I must say. It would definitely be a difficult break up. Selling both of those pieces of technology would provide a nice chunk of change to pay off some debt. Hmmm….
I probably would add Xbox 360 to the list up until my recent purchase of Connect 360 which is an amazing application that lets me wirelessly stream music and movies to my XBox 360. I’ll do a full review on this application within the next couple of days as well. So, I guess you’re lucky Xbox, I’ve found enough reason for the time being to not break up with you.
So the potential divorce list really just consists of:
2. Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Pro w/ 4GB RAM
What technology would make your divorce list? If you’re not giving your technology enough love, maybe its time to bring that relationship to end. Well, any break ups in your future?

I agree…I recently bought a brand new Dell widescreen…and I chose the 20″ over the 24″ not because of price, but because 24″ was just TOO much for me…
I do mostly writing/documents versus image editing, so I didn’t need that much real estate.
