Change your Mac Icons In 4 Steps

March 16th, 2008 | Apple, How-To, Technology

Another post from my good friend Mike: I love apple, but seriously, whats up with their icons? The hard drive icon is seriously unattractive, it looks like Britney Spears eating a supersized McFlurry. So how do I remedy this? I visit Interfacelift.com. Interfacelift is seriously my favorite website to download wallpapers, icons and themes. The site has a ton of great user generated content. If you haven’t changed your destop icons before here are some quick details. Personally I love Tiger themed folder and the Aqua series.

Here is how to change any icon in OS X.

1.) Download a new icon (For this example I will change my HD icon, which was downloaded at Interfacelift)

2.) Find the new icon that you’re going to utilize to replace the old standard icon. Once found, highlight it and use apple “C” or right right click and select “Copy”.

3.) Find the icon you want to replace and hit apple “I” or right click and select “Get Info”. Once the below window is open, highlight the icon in the top left corner.

4.) Once highlighted, hit apple “V” or right click and select “Paste”.

It’s really that simple. You can do this with any icon from application icons to folders. Completely customize your OS with your own icons. How many of you will try some new icons? I for one change mine quite often to keep my OS looking fresh.
