Send Large Files With YouSendIt

March 21st, 2008 | How-To, Online, Technology

Another post from Mike! Ever want to share a new CD a photo album or a short movie to friends but you couldn’t find an easy way to transfer the file? Sometimes sending files takes too long pending the size and sometimes the recipient is not around to accept or does not have auto accept setup with their instant messaging client. If this sounds like you, here is your solution.

For the past two years I have been using YouSendIt. I use it as a means to send my friends music. We will just go ahead and skip around the ethics and legality behind sending your friends music online, but this service is seriously easy for anyone to use. Simply zip a folder into a single file, log onto YouSendIt, upload the file and you get a link a few moments later that you can email your friends or copy and paste to them allowing them to download whatever content you uploaded. The free service is pretty standard allowing 100 downloads or a 7 day window for downloading.

I like yousend it for a few simple reasons.

  1. Its clean and easy to use, signing up is simple and free ( I used my 2nd junk email account to activate the link)
  2. Its easy for people to figure out how to download the file, other competitors make downloading the link hard in order to keep the user on their website longer, allowing more money to be made off advertising.
  3. I haven’t found anything better yet.

There are some competitors that promise the same results but I haven’t had a clean user experience, think turboupload.com, filefactory, megaupload.com.
How do you send your files?
